As we are avid porn listeners here at Sonic, your ears may recognise the sound of the wah-wah pedal from it’s ubiquitous presence in porn soundtracks. The coupling of the electric guitar with the wah-wah pedal is the most common instrument associated with the “porn groove” of 70s porn flicks. Learn about the pedal’s history through the words of music greats such as Ben Fong-Torres, Eddie Van Halen, Slash, Buddy Guy, Art Thompson, Eddie Kramer, Kirk Hammett, Dweezil Zappa, and Jim Dunlop in this doco.

Red Umbrella Diaries is a monthly storytelling series in New York, where people who’ve tangled with the sex industry tell personal stories about the complications that arise when you mix sex and money. Recordings of these stories are regularly released as a free audio podcast.
Here are two audio clips from the storytelling events that we recommend listening to.
In “Stunt Cunt,” Laura G. Duncan tells a story about being a gynecological teaching associate (GTA). She is a sexual health researcher, educator and writer currently living in Brooklyn.
In “The Dabbler,” Kira Manser shares two stories about dabbling in the sex industry and learning about diverse fetishes. Kira Manser traces her sex education roots from Miko, a feminist run sex shop in Providence, to her current position as an educator at The Velvet Lily, a sex-positive shop in Philly. Currently, she can be found working on a dual masters program in social work and education in human sexuality at Widener University.
Live events and podcast are hosted by Audacia Ray.
The live storytelling event is at
Happy Ending, 302 Broome Street between Forsyth and Eldridge

What do the lovers and partners of sex workers need to know to help them overcome whorephobia? Film-makers Lusty and Jackson asked sex workers to share their messages to the significant people in their lives. A poignant insight into assumptions that sex workers face in their relationships.
EVERY HO I KNOW SAYS SO is a response to the total lack of accessible online resources for people looking for advice on how to be a good date or lover or partner to a sex worker. We want to support our lovers to continue unlearning the internalized stigma against sex workers, especially in intimate relationships. We think that sex workers themselves have valuable advice and direction to give to people who get into intimate relationships with us. This is the direct message we want to give to our lovers: “We hope that this video is useful to you in your journey to becoming a sex worker-positive and supportive lover and person in the community!!! By continuing to work on your attitudes about our work and educating yourself, you are showing us that you care. We love you!”
Today has been declared by the blogosphere as Lady Porn Day; a day about exploring porn and masturbation.
Girls aren’t encouraged to talk to each other about porn– the same way we aren’t encouraged to talk to each other about masturbation. In girl-world, too often we expect our first orgasm to come from a partner. Then we expect our Sex-and-The-City approved hitachi-orgasms to come from, well, our closed eyes. But porn is just another tool for your sexual growth. And according to statistics more women are watching porn than ever, growing stronger in our silence apparently.
Follow along as Rachel Rabbit Write blogs about lady porn all week.
Everyone is getting involved in the dialogue, from sex educators Betty Dodson and Carlin Ross to genderqueer pornstar Jizz Lee. Dr. Carol Queen has also shared her thoughts at Good Vibrations Magazine.
Get involved and join the conversation online and amongst your friends by sharing porn links, stories and insights.
Better yet, share your female perspective about porn with Pornography Research Online so that their research can represtnt the ladies too.
